"The Internet should benefit you, not benefit from you."
Short explanation of minisome:
1. Minisome is non-profit and respects your privacy: we don't use cookies or sell your data!
2. There are no algorithms manipulating you: everyone sees the same content.
3. Minisome is small and non-addictive by design. On social media, less is more: it's easier to make friends when the userbase is smaller, and less content eliminates doomscrolling.
4. Minisome even works on old devices, such as the iPhone 6!
The light-weight source code eliminates the need to always get a new phone, creating equality, preserving nature - and makes the site super fast!
Detailed explanation of minisome:
Minisome is a responsible social media platform that aims to give the user a healthier alternative without the typical problems of social media, such as purposely addictive web design and user monitoring. If this sounds foreign to you, remind yourself of how you have to click "accept cookies" or "reject cookies" every time you visit a website. On minisome, you will never have to do that. We don't sell any of your information.
Social media has been proven to be incredibly addictive and detrimental to your mental health. People are more alone, mentally ill, and stressed out than ever before. This is because almost all websites exist only to make their owners rich at your expense. They monitor how you use their sites and use this data to see how they could manipulate you to use it more. Your increased screen time is a result of this psychological abuse done by capitalist companies. Minisome is non-profit - built by users, for users.
We need to steer the Internet in a direction that benefits humanity instead of damaging it. Minisome aims to offer you all the basic social media services you'd normally use but without the toxic components. This is a groundbreaking attempt to create a sustainable and responsible competitor for Big Tech social media, which is not sustainable or responsible at all. Minisome attempts to create not just healthier human life but also leave a smaller carbon footprint than its competitors.

1. Minisome is non-profit: no ads or behavioral data collection!
"Big Tech", a handful of large companies, own most of the world wide web. Not long ago, the web was a patchwork of unique sites but big money and the "network effect" have resulted in such centralization that most of us only visit the same couple of sites.Big Tech makes trillions by giving people services and then harvesting the behavioral data that is generated as a result of their use. Your search engine inputs, the videos you watch, how many milliseconds you spend looking at content.. this data is used to build a profile of your personality so they can predict your future behavior. Many ignore this dystopian privacy breach because it's easier to look the other way.
2. We need to fix Internet addiction
Websites today are purposely designed to target your reward system and get you hooked, keeping you online for several hours per day. Your life, your time on this Earth, is the most valuable thing you can have, and social media is stealing it. By now, this phenomenon has become harmful to us on a collective level. Studies are already showing that young people have alarmingly short attention spans and they're performing poorly in school. Big Tech companies have turned the builders of our future into drooling smartphone zombies.Technology seemingly makes life easier by making certain tasks faster to perform, but we're not seeing an increase in human happiness. You might have a dozen communication apps that you're logged in to, and you're subconsciously always on high alert, waiting for one of these apps to beep and notify you of a new message. This creates stress that you might not even be aware of. This is why minisome has a minimal amount of notifications or other psychological web elements.
What makes minisome unique is that its starting point is in science and human psychology. Minisome is more than a project to create a friendly website. The Internet is already a fundamental part of the life of homo sapiens. How will the Internet affect us as a species? How should the Internet operate in order to benefit us the most? These deep questions are hardly ever asked let alone answered. Capitalism is the driving force behind most technology, so human well-being is not very high up on the list. It is here!
3. Social responsibility
On minisome, you have more rights than just the right to free content without being tracked or profiled. If you find any discussion on this site that you feel is unpleasant towards you or someone else, it will be removed.4. Minisome runs on almost any device, making it ecological and practical
We talk about carbon footprints and responsibility a lot, but how many of us have cut back on our social media consuption? Do you know how much energy is consumed in large server halls when you stream videos online? Do you know how much e-waste is created just because people are forced to get a new phone every couple of years?Minisome has been hand-coded from scratch without the use of heavy frameworks and libraries such as React. There is no bloat. This ultra light-weight, optimized architecture of minisome makes it run fast and run on older devices such as the iPhone 6 (tested in 2026). The implications are massive:
1. There is now financial equality on social media. You're not excluded from participating just because you can't afford a newer phone or laptop.
2. Using minisome creates less e-waste. The world is drowning in discarded smartphones because Big Tech wants to implement new programming architecture that is convenient for them, but requires you to upgrade.
3. The site works super fast and barely drains your battery.
4. Minisome is great for areas where you might have limited Internet speeds, or crisis situations.
Even file sizes are purposely limited to a reasonable degree. Minisome has been designed from the perspective of sustainability from the ground up.
5. AI is forbidden on minisome
Not a single part of minisome was made using AI. Every line of the code has been hand-written, and all the graphical elements were drawn using Inkscape. The same ideology applies to the content uploaded on the site: the uploading of AI-generated content is forbidden. This may seem drastic, but the reason behind it is very simple: every other site and device out there is brimming with "AI slop." Manufacturers are racing to fill their cars and phones with AI assistance. Every image site is so full of AI-generated content that you can barely identify what's real anymore. Bot-generated content is drowning out reality.Even at its best, AI-generated art is an inferior version of what humans could've produced. It makes sense to leave at least one site out of the AI craze. AI isn't all bad. It's a tool. But like any tool, it needs to be used correctly. AI was created to simplify monotonous tasks so we could focus on what's important. You know, human life. Instead, many think AI needs to be implemented absolutely everywhere and basically let it live, create, and think for us.
6. Minisome is open source and we want you to contribute!
All of minisome's policies are up for discussion, and the goal is for the development work to be done as a collective, because the Internet belongs to the people. The simplest way to help is to start using the site and participating in the development threads.
Minisome is open source and we want you to contribute in the programming. For instance, you can try to find bugs in it, or come up with more elegant ways to code its pre-existing features.
